KITT research and development wing lends support to the needs of both the School of Technology and the School of Management. The R&D organizational structure has been strengthened to support the researchrelated needs of the various departments and schools functioning under this young University. The R&D Wing also promotes interdisciplinary research through multidisciplinary interactions. The vision is to unleash creative thinking and enable KIIT to become a well-known technological university for research and development as well as for post-graduate education and doctoral research.

The wing collaborates with various educational, scientific, research and industrial organizations. Faculty members are currently pursuing research funded by organizations, such as, the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

Industry-Institute interactions are also being strengthened through various funded schemes sponsored by AICTE, UGC and DSIR. In this context, a large number of MoUs have been signed with leading research organizations of the country and abroad for facilitating collaborative research and other academic activities.

As an expression of the University's commitment towards society, the wing is working with Orissa Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) as the technical back-up unit for their Bio-fuel Project. The Mechanical Engineering Department is working closely with OREDA, supporting various project related requirements, examining efficiency of different pre-heating systems and engine performance with different Bio-oils, as well as for development of a portable testing kit for Biodiesel.

A significant step forward has been made with the introduction of doctoral programme. Currently offered in three broad areas, technology, management and humanities, the university has instituted 48 doctoral fellowships.
